Aaron Rodgers is smiling today. America's long lasting nightmare is finally over and Rodgers is basking in the reality that his unspoken dreams have finally come to fruition. Ole Grey Beard has packed his Red-man and his six shooter and is headed to, or should I say, has arrived in the Big Apple. Kudos to young Brown Beard for keeping his patience and composure considering how everything went down. Ironically, the gut reaction around the Fantasy realm has seemingly focused it's attention not on what this means for the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, but rather what the value of Brett Favre in Green and White will mean? Consider me curious as to why that's even on the general public suspicious minds.
OK, of course... I know why, because it's Brett Favre and really not much has changed in the life and times of Aaron Rodgers. He WAS the Green Bay starting QB before this whole ordeal ever began and his role hasn't changed in the least bit. However, most folks around the Fantasy circuit fail to even acknowledge the impact Aaron Rodgers could possibly have on this Fantasy Football season. Go ahead and mark me down as being in Camp Rodgers. I see something. What? I'm not quite sure, but I see the possibilities.
Read on for more on Rodgers versus Favre.
As it stands Aaron Rodgers falls somewhere between 15-20 in the QB ranks alone. While, Brett Favre has leaped his way right around 11-15. Yet, in principle aren't there a lot more weapons to go around in Green Bay? Haven't the Packers built a "system" offense? Don't the Packers boast one of the younger and stronger offensive lines in the league? If you answered yes to all the above then ask yourself where you see Aaron Rodgers on the Fantasy QB hierarchy. Would you really prefer guys like Jon Kitna, Vince Young, Matt Lienart or Jeff Garcia as opposed to Aaron Rodgers?
Hmmm, my vote is going for Rodgers every single time. He's loaded with the likes of Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Donald Lee and James Jones as his receiving core. It's also safe to toss in Ryan Grant (whom I'm not excited about in the least) along with Brandon Jackson (could be a sleeper). Factor what's on Rodgers side going into the season and it'd be foolish to think he doesn't at least hold some value and maybe even more than an aging gunslinger. I know, I know... I should bite my tongue when speaking down on the reverence that is Ole Grey Beard. However, I'm just not under the impression that Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, and Thomas Jones quite compare to Green Bay's arsenal.
Rodgers hasn't exactly set the world ablaze this training camp or early pre-season. However, there is something that should be said about the huge cloud of Brett Favre lingering over him like a stale fart. That's no longer a problem. Finally, Rodgers is able to go out and simply perform. The job is his, the talent is all his and I certainly won't be shy about snatching Aaron Rodgers on the cheap in any of my numerous Fantasy drafts in the coming weeks. Think it over. Maybe it's worth reconsidering the Brett Favre lust and giving Brown Beard a chance. What's the worst that could happen?
Oh yes, one quick disclaimer...I'm not pegging Rodgers in the light of the Fantasy stud. Rather, I'm hinting at the notion that Favre might not be all that we make him out to be. We do only have a sample on which to judge Aaron Rodgers and that'd be the Dallas game from last season. That might just be enough for me. For now, I suppose it's a wait and see approach, but I trust in Aaron Rodgers.

So would you draft Rodgers as your starting QB or your backup? I drafted him as my backup.

yeah, I'd say Rodgers is at best a spot starter and a solid back-up. I like to think of him as Phillip Rivers in his first season as a starter. Way too inconsistent to be your stud, but against the right defense...he could be a great fill in.

I drafted Rodgers as my backup QB but I plan on starting him against MIN this Sunday. Against the right defense, I think he will rack up the fantasy points. MIN being at the bottom of the pack in pass defense, look for Rodgers to have a stellar debut.
