If you were lucky enough to draw the No. 1 pick in your Fantasy Football draft, chances are you were a very happy person and you needed very little preparation for the pick. You snagged LaDainian Tomlinson and called it day, breathing a sigh of relief. Fast forward to the near midpoint of the season and you've probably been pulling your hair out, suffering from sleep deprivation or just shopped around for anything of value to soften the dismal output from L.T.The fantasy legend that is L.T has been a hot topic of conversation. The rise and fall has been much chronicled this season with a ton of nitpicking at just how a player so great, could come crashing down to earth so fast. Everything from his big toe to his heart has been called into question. Has he lost a step? Does he even want it anymore? Well, nothing last forever, even cold November---sorry, had to stop myself from actually quoting Guns n' Roses.
A couple weeks ago – I actually went on record to say you may as well cut ties with L.T. I mean he just didn't look interested, didn't look like himself and was hardly taking the shape of the No. 1 overall fantasy player we've come to know and love. Plus, I rationalized that his namesake alone could still bring in a hefty ransom if dealt under the proper scenarios. For example, after his lone 100 yards rushing, 2 TD effort against he Raiders it seemed logical to make the move.
Well, today I'm taking it all back. No, this is not a Seinfeld episode where I'm doing everything in opposites. Believe me, that crap doesn't work - I tried it out with gambling - no such luck. Anyhow, I'm just taking mulligan on my original train of thought. Why on earth would you even consider dealing away L.T? Silence.
OK, let me explain. First off, it can't possibly get much worse than it was last week against Buffalo. No chance; that was rock bottom and just as soon as people begin to write the eulogy on L.T's career as a dominating RB - you can only expect him to rise once again. Besides, just look at the schedule it's gonna be easier than you realize.
First up it's a date with his old buddy Drew Brees and the Saints in London. No, the Saints are hardly pushovers, but they also aren't exactly the Baltimore Ravens either. I'm not of the impression that L.T is gonna wake-up on Sunday and suddenly re-discover the magic and blister the Saints for 180 and 4 TD's. However, be patient my friends.
Circle Week 10 on your calendar, because coming off the bye week to rest and yes, heal that big toe – L.T gets to tee off at home against Kansas City. The same Chiefs defense that LenDale White just hammered for 150 and 3 TD's. If L.T can't get it going here then we all might be screwed. However, my guess is that's just not gonna happen. The call here is that he blisters the Chiefs to get back on a roll.
In Weeks 12-15 he faces Indianapolis, Atlanta, Kansas City (again) and the Raiders (whom he simply owns). Yes, he's got Pittsburgh in Week 11 and @ Tampa Bay during Week 16. However, if he ever needed relief he's gonna get it with a break and with 5 out of 7 pretty easy match-ups. This all seems so logical and seems to set-up perfect for L.T to be a HUGE impact player down the stretch.
Maybe, we should remove the shovel and dirt pile away from the grave stone of what we once thought to be the greatest Fantasy Football player alive. It's not over; I don't see how it could be. And that's why I'm taking the opposite of what many are telling you to do; don't get rid of L.T, because he may very well save your season after all.
