Tweet This: Fifty Fantasy Basketball Tips

You kids and your Twitter. There's something about 140 characters to get your point across that just seems to make sense. The whole idea got me thinking that instead of dragging out some fantasy basketball column that you'll likely just skim over, what do you say I give you 50 fantasy basketball tips and observations in 140 characters or less. You have no vote in this matter, so you're getting them anyway.

These tips are not only designed for those of you who have yet to draft your fantasy teams, but they're also for those who are looking to improve on their post-draft squads. Hopefully this is a helpful way to get out as much information as possible while keepin' it mainstream.

¤ Get to know your league's scoring system. Roto? Head-to-head? Points league? Eight categories? Nine? #CommonSense

¤ Draft a foundation in roto leagues. Attack the eight categories with a point guard, big man and scoring wing early.

¤ In head-to-head leagues attack five specific categories. Just win, baby. You don't need to win all eight categories each week.

¤ Think about a specific strategy: small ball, big ball, punting a specific category, etc. But come prepared with different strategies. Nobody cares that you "wanted that guy."

¤ Know your player's free-throw attempts as well as their free-throw percentage. Guys who get to the line two times per game are neither very helpful or harmful. It's the math!

¤ Lakers fans: Just because Kobe Bryant wins NBA championships, doesn't mean he should be the top pick in your draft.

¤ Before we start talking 75 percent from the line for Dwight Howard, let's get him to 65 percent first. He's at 50.7 percent this preseason.

¤ Don't listen to the "do not draft Dwight Howard" theorists in head-to-head leagues. It's not necessary. #OKtoPuntFT%

Carmelo Anthony¤ Carmelo Anthony should finish in the Top 20 this season. Draft accordingly.

¤ In a keeper or dynasty league you'll want to take Kevin Durant third overall. In redrafts it's hard to pass on Dwyane Wade at No. 3.

¤ Don't worry about Jose Calderon's 7.1 points and 3.6 assists average. It's just a couple of preseason games.

¤ Get excited about Roy Hibbert's 13.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks. Don't reach on him, but he looks like a legit second center. Think 10th or 11th round.

¤ Al Jefferson is still not an early-second round draft pick. I'm actually considering moving him to the early-third.

¤ I would still draft Kevin Love in the 13th or 14th round. He's only out for six weeks, and the fracture is not on his shooting hand.

¤ Danilo Gallinari and Andrea Bargnani make me proud to be a Lorenzo. Bargnani goes in the fifth, Gallinari in the 11th.

¤ In Houston the center situation is as follows: Carl Landry on offense, Chuck Hayes on defense, and David Andersen on drums.

¤ D.J. Augustin won't go quietly. With Raja Bell nursing an injury, Augustin should be drafted in 12-team leagues.

¤ Chris Douglas-Roberts is the best player with three names not on your fantasy roster. #HarrietBeecherStowe

¤ Anthony Morrow is better than at least one player on your team. E-mail me, I'll tell you which one.

¤ Toney Douglas will continue to steal minutes from Nate Robinson. He's a better PG, and the Knicks need one.

¤ Eddie Jordan's Princeton-style offense requires a high-post passer. Samuel Dalembert's career assist total: 0.4 per game. #Speights

¤ Andray Blatche got a nice look this preseason -- 11.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks. With Antawn Jamison out for 3-5 weeks, Blatche becomes an interesting prospect.

¤ Corey Brewer is back and starting at two-guard in Minny. He is still rail-thin, but he's got great posture and shops at the Mall of America. He's an exciting sleeper.

¤ Heads up: Von Wafer is playing overseas, but his nickname -- The Dutch Cookie -- is a solid name for your fantasy team, if you're lost for ideas.

¤ It wouldn't surprise me if Marcus Thornton finishes the '09-'10 season as the most fantasy-relevant Thornton in the game.

¤ Marcus Camby might not be ready to open the season. My DeAndre Jordan sleeper call might actually become a reality.

¤ Jason Thompson is on my list of must-haves. If he were able to limit his fouls he'd be on yours as well.

Tyrus Thomas¤ I've drafted Tyrus Thomas in each of the last three seasons. His per-36 numbers are right on par with Josh Smith's. Thomas won't get past me in the seventh round.

¤ As for my concern about Anthony Randolph's injuries, I did just get done telling you that I drafted Tyrus Thomas in each of the last three seasons.

¤ Love the points, assists and steals coming from Tyreke Evans, but still concerned with his 4.0 turnovers and 41.9 percent showing from the floor.

¤ If Eddy Curry and Stephen Curry could work out a deal to meet somewhere in the middle we might be talking about two totally different players.

¤ Ronnie Brewer is a late-round steal for those looking for steals. I made him a 12th-round promise.

¤ Handcuff your Gilbert Arenas pick with Randy Foye, if possible. Should Arenas go down yet again, Foye gets a huge boost.

¤ Know your backups. Injuries happen. How many Carlos Boozer owners were kicking themselves for not knowing who Paul Millsap was last season?

¤ Omri Casspi could end up winning over the starting small forward battle in Sacramento. Still not draftable, but worth a look.

¤ Mario Chalmers is not happy about Carlos Arroyo joining the Heat, and neither am I. Chalmers has an average draft position of 106.3 and that's starting to look about right.

¤ Derrick Rose should be ready to go on opening night, so reconsider buying Kirk Hinrich at his preseason price. Someone hook me up with a joke about it being a Bull Market.

¤ Seven players last season averaged 1.5 steals and 1.5 three-pointers per game. Add Courtney Lee to the short list of guys who may join the 1.5/1.5 ranks this season.

¤ Ramon Sessions may not catch a break this year. It's hard to envision him getting the 30 minutes he was long hoping for. I won't make a scene if you draft Jonny Flynn ahead of Sessions.

Chris Andersen¤ Chris Andersen will block more shots than Ronny Turiaf this season. For those of you looking for blocks late in the draft.

¤ Aaron Afflalo gets a good look over the first seven games, thanks to J.R. Smith's suspension. He might be worth it in deep leagues.

¤ It's no secret: Houston, San Antonio and Washington play 12 games during the standard head-to-head playoff weeks -- 21, 22, and 23. Portland plays just eight games in that span.

¤ I still don't draft based on the head-to-head playoff schedule. Start thinking about that strategy around the All-Star break.

¤ Mike Dunleavy Jr. is "close to returning" to the court. Still, don't sleep on Brandon Rush. The wind will eventually blow in Dunleavy's direction, knocking him out for another 4-6 weeks.

¤ Charlie Villanueva returned to the court and posted a modest stat line. I still can see him posting 20 points and eight rebounds. That is if he's up to it. Whatever, Charlie, we'll wait for you.

¤ Many are expecting Hakim Warrick to break out this season. Sure, he might post 15 and 6, but is it too much to ask for at least one block per game? I'd take a shot on him in the late rounds.

¤ Louis Williams is not a traditional point, but in the 76ers offense he doesn't need to be. There is a ton of ball movement, making it less likely that he'll hit the five assists mark. Draft Williams for his scoring, a few threes, and a decent amount of steals.

¤ Rodney Stuckey is having a tough time shaking Will Bynum. I still don't see the minutes for Bynum, unless the Pistons decide to go with more three-guard sets.

¤ My off-the-wall prediction: Rasheed Wallace will outperform Troy Murphy. I can't guarantee it, but I have a gut feeling. Plus, when you get a bunch of these things out there you look pretty good when/if one comes true.

¤ Finally: feel free to follow me on Twitter. I'm more than happy to tweet some advice -- @RotoLorenzo
